Allergies

Allergies can be difficult to deal with. Depending on the allergens and how severe an attack is, it can be extremely hard to manage. When your child is dealing with allergies, you will want to do everything you can to ensure that they don’t suffer from their symptoms. It’s important to talk to your pediatrician to find out if your child has any allergies and how you can help them manage their symptoms.

Dealing With Childhood Allergies

It’s important that you are able to identify your child’s allergens as early as possible. This can help you avoid serious complications in the future, and you can create a management plan with your child’s pediatrician to help improve their quality of life. Allergies can typically cause symptoms such as:

  • Skin rashes
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Sneezing, coughing, or itchy eyes
  • Runny nose
  • Upset stomach

There are several types of allergies and it’s important to find out what triggers your child’s allergies. Common allergens include:

  • Pollen
  • Insect bites or stings
  • Pet or animal fur
  • Dust mites
  • Mold
  • Specific foods

If you notice that your child has mild symptoms after eating a specific food, be sure to keep track of the symptoms and what foods your child ate so that our pediatrician can determine what they might be allergic to. Testing will be done to pinpoint exactly what causes your child’s allergic reactions.

The best way to manage allergies is by avoiding allergens whenever possible. It’s not always possible so it’s important to have a plan for dealing with symptoms. Your child might need an antihistamine or in severe cases, an EPIpen.
